Companion app affecting game performance

Everytime I turn on the map, the game either freezes every few minutes. This has been happening for about 2 weeks when I played Palia and used the app again. However, I dismissed it thinking it was just my computer slowing down due to other heavy-duty apps. But, in the past hour or so, when I used the map for fishing, my game completely froze and I couldn't even open my windows menu. I tried opening the game again with no companion app enabled and it was smooth but then I enabled the app and it started freezing again. I couldn't even interact with the game menu. I tried reinstalling the app multiple times and still doesn't fix it.
