Currently, if you start the THGL Companion App with a game running and the app has an update (I think?), it will force-close the game without warning or any option to avoid doing so. I understand why the updater needs to close the game in order to proceed, but it tends to take me by surprise. As you might expect, there are some circumstances where the game closing unexpectedly is a HIGHLY undesirable outcome. (Just for one example, in Palia, players hosting or attending events often need to avoid logging out in order to ensure they stay on the same server/shard, sometimes with severe consequences for the group - involving hours of lost progress - if the host crashes/is logged out unexpectedly.) A "THGL Updater needs to close the game in order to update. Proceed?" dialogue box would, I think, solve the "unexpected" part, at least. :)
